The Queen of Spain
Zbigniew Preisner's latest film score is for Fernando Trueba's film La Reina de Espana (The Queen of Spain) starring Penelope Cruz and a cast of distinguished Spanish and American actors. The film is released in Spain on 25th November. Preisner's score is also released as an original soundtrack CD by Quartet Records and as a digital album by Atresmusica. The score is performed by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Adam Klocek, with soloists Dominik Wania (piano) and Zbigniew Paleta (violin).
The film is a comedy drama in which Cruz plays the famous 1950s movie star Macarena Granada, escaping from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood and returning to Madrid, where she will star in an epic film about Queen Isabella of Castille. It’s also a sequel to Trueba’s 1998 drama The Girl Of Your Dreams, also starring Cruz and set during the Spanish Civil War. This is the third time that the director and Cruz have worked together. Their first project together was the 1992 film Belle Époque which received the Academy Award for best foreign-language film.
