'Lacrimosa' is featured in Palme d'Or winner 'The Tree Of Life'
At Terrence Malick's request Zbigniew Preisner re-mixed his original recording of the 'Lacrimosa' theme (from Requiem for my friend) for inclusion in the remarkable soundtrack of this extraordinary film, winner of the Palme d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The Tree of Life stars Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain, and is the impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1950's. The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father. Jack finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. The 'Lacrimosa' theme opens the spectacular sequence of cosmic and natural-science footage, Malick's visual tone poem on the mysteries of the universe and the origins of life, which forms the heart of the film's narrative.
